Alejandra Rizo, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Alejandra’s interest in psychology started when she saw her older brother struggling with learning disabilities. This inspired her to study psychology to help families and children with special needs.

When she obtained her Masters’ in Marriage and Family Therapy she discovered her passion for helping individuals and their families, by focusing on family dynamics and relationships in the healing and strengthening process.

THERAPY FOR CHILDREN

Alejandra has worked with children, adolescents, and families for over 20 years. She uses an attachment-based approach in her work with her young clients and their families, strengthening the relationship between parent and child.

She has extensive experience in working with children ages 0-6 and focuses on the Parent-Child dynamic. She also supports children who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and ADHD, helping them feel understood, secure, and confident.

Alejandra has training in both Play Therapy and Art Therapy and understands the importance of offering these more experiential and developmentally appropriate treatment modalities allowing children to communicate and process their feelings and learn new coping skills.

As a mother herself, she deeply understands the joys and challenges that come with each stage of parenting. She supports parents on their journey, offering compassionate guidance and practical tools to help them connect with their children’s emotional world and respond to their needs with confidence.

Alejandra also has meaningful experience working with neurodivergent children, embracing each child’s unique strengths while providing thoughtful, individualized support.

ADOLESCENTS & YOUNG ADULTS

For adolescents and young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, low self-esteem, and balancing school/work and life, Alejandra uses REBT (Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy), which goes a step further than CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) to address not only the irrational thoughts that lead to behaviors but also the core belief. This allows for deeper and more long-lasting improvements in the overall mood and quality of life of her clients. She enjoys, empowering adolescents with tools and strategies to manage emotional experiences and social challenges effectively.

FAMILIES & COUPLES

Alejandra also offers family and couples therapy for those who want to strengthen their family system and nurture their relationship both as partners and as parents. She understands how challenging it can be to balance personal needs, parenting responsibilities, and the emotional demands of everyday life.

She specializes in the Gottman Method, an evidence-based approach designed to improve communication, deepen intimacy, and increase respect and affection within the relationship. Through this work, she helps couples identify patterns that may be keeping them feeling “stuck,” while fostering empathy, understanding, and meaningful connection.
